Michael Fey is a Managing Director and Business Head of Westwood Capital. He has more than 20 years of experience in international private equity, investment banking, and structured finance, focused principally on international and multinational clients.
Prior to joining Westwood, Mike spent 15 years with Citigroup’s Corporate and Investment Bank, most recently managing the Latin American team within Citigroup’s Global Special Situations Group, the firm’s proprietary investment unit. In this capacity, Mike has been the senior banker responsible for a variety of private equity and subordinated debt investments and has represented Citigroup’s interest as its board representative with respect to the investments he managed.
Prior to managing the proprietary investment team, Mike managed the Citigroup emerging markets team within the Global Securitized Products business. He expanded what began as a Latin American coverage model into Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa, investing in and arranging structured finance transactions across numerous asset classes, jurisdictions, and industries. Mike instituted a twofold approach to this global business, initially focusing on innovating cross border structures for emerging market issuers placed with OECD investors while creating local platforms to export international securitization technology into the local capital markets.
Throughout his career, Mike has led the execution of groundbreaking transactions. In his role as head of the Emerging Market Securitization business, Mike led the first locally placed Mexican MBS transactions and the first (and only) cross border future flow securitization to pierce the sovereign rating ceiling by five rating notches. As lead investor, Mike led the first structured minority interest investments in the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico for Citigroup. In total Mike has led a combination of principal investments and market placements with a notional value of over $14 billion.
Mike received his MBA in International Finance from St. John’s University in NY, and his BS in Industrial Engineering from Polytechnic University.
